Lock app: This Is How You Protect Your Apps From Prying Eyes

Anyone who loses their smartphone or makes it available to other users can prevent unauthorized people from using the apps on the device with little effort. Above all, private messages, chats and picture galleries should be protected by fingerprint, passcode or face ID.

There are various ways to do this on iPhones and Android devices, which we will introduce to you below. Lock app isn't as complicated as you might think.

Lock App On Android Devices

Basically, you have the choice of lock app individually or securing apps with third-party software. The individual blocking is particularly advantageous if you only want to give someone the smartphone for a short time to look at something in a specific app. It is possible to pin the app in the Android operating system so that you cannot leave it without unlocking it.

Here's how it works: First, open your smartphone's settings and tap on "Biometrics and security". Select "Other security settings" from the menu and activate the "Pin windows" function. You then switch to the app overview. There you go to the app that should be blocked. To do this, select the option “Pin this app” and tap on “ok”. The app must now be unlocked via the smartphone's lock screen in order to be able to exit it.

Android apps can also be blocked using third-party software. You can find suitable apps for this in the Google Play Store. For example, the apps Smart AppLock and Ultra AppLock are recommended. They explain the blocking process in a step-by-step guide. The advantage of using third-party software is that multiple apps can be selected for locked mode at the same time.

First install the desired third-party app on the smartphone. Then tap the "Start" button and set the security method. Then you select the apps you want to block. Tap on "Lock" and confirm with "Ok". Now set a security question in case the PIN or password is forgotten.

Then tap on "Activate" so that the backup app can adjust the settings on the smartphone accordingly. Some apps use a slider for activation. You will then be returned to the app, where the blocking function must be confirmed with "Ok". The selected apps are now locked and can only be unlocked with a password or PIN.

Lock App On iPhone

Lock App on iPhone works via Guided Access option. It ensures that a specific app can only be exited after entering a PIN code. This ensures more security when you lend your iPhone out or show other people something on the device. First open the settings window and select "Accessibility".Then tap on "Guided Access" and activate the function with "Ok". Now open the app to be blocked. Press the iPhone's side button three times, then press "Start" in the top right.

Set the passcode required to unlock the app. Confirm the code by entering it again. To end Guided Access, you need to press the side button of the iPhone three times and then enter the code. Then select "Exit".Locking an app on iPhone is also possible with the Screen Time feature. However, this option is only available for pre-installed apps. Locking an app via third-party software is not yet possible for iOS.
